PIA Re-Styles the Ground & Cabin Crew

Nomi Ansari, Yasmeen Shaikh, Sania Maskatiya and Republic by Omer Farooq to style the cabin & ground crew of Pakistan International Airlines

Karachi 16^th March, 2015: Pakistan’s very first national flag carrier airline, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) hosted its one of a kind showcase titled Style PIA Fashion Show scheduled on 16^th March 2015. The show has been brought forth by the best efforts of Chariman Mr.Nasser Nawaz Jaffer and Managing Director Mr. Shahnawaz Rahman, with a vital contribution by the legendary Bunto Kazmi. PIA is keeping up with its long sartorial legacy and commitment to emulate style in their prestigious institution.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), flew its first service with the Super Constellation on 07 June 1954 on the route linking Karachi and Dacca (now Dhaka), which were the main cities of the country's western and eastern halves, of which the later is now Bangladesh. The very first PIA Air Hostess uniform design (1954 to 1956) represented threads of history and monarchy. It was a uniform that comprised of gray tweed jacket, skirt, blouse and a matching cap. It has long been associated with renowned national and international designers who have lent their workmanship towards the designing of the uniforms. And till date, Ms Riffat Yasmin’s three coloured shalwar kameez (Mustard, Sea Green and Rust) uniform is worn by the airhostesses with floral patterned dupatta.

Continuing this tremendous legacy of having national and international dress designers for designing of uniforms of PIA flight attendants, 15 modern day designers including: Maheen Khan, Shamaeel Ansari & Sonya Batla, Amir Adnan, Nida Azwer, Ismail Farid, Omer Farooq, Fahad Hussayn, Maheen Karim, MishaLakhani, SaniaMaskatiya, Yasmeen Sheikh, Shamoon Sultan of Khaadi, Ali Zeeshan and HSY endeavored to emulate the style in white shalwar and dupatta, green shirt with white cuffs and collar. They also put together their entire look with caps, shoes and other appropriate accessories for the ground and cabin crew.

These fifteen fashion maestros conjured up fabulous designs, selecting their color palettes and working on the minimalistic cuts and modest silhouettes to show-case their versions of the PIA uniform. And to judge these fine set of outfits and select the best among all, the PIA Uniform Fashion Showcase assembled a handful of notable personalities from the entertainment industry to lend their expertise and opinion. The judge’s panel consisted of Shakil Saigol, Seemi Iftikhar, Naz Mansha, Tariq Amin, Shehnaz Ismail, Rabiya Javeri & Zeba Bakhtiar.

The judge’s panel selected Nomi Ansari for women’s wear, Republic by Omer Farooq for men’s wear, while the crew will be sporting Sania Maskatiya’s caps and Yasmeen Shaikh’s jackets to complete their uniform.

The show was hosted by the eminent Ms. Atiqa Odho who is a Pakistani television and film actress, television host, politician and owner of a cosmetic brand.
