Meet and greet the cast of Udaari

Karachi, April 7, 2016: The cast of the drama serial Udaariproduced by MominaDuraid (MD Productions) and Kashf Foundation in collaboration with the Canadian Government, met the media here today.

Written by FarhatIshtiaq and directed by Ehteshamuddin the serial has a stellar cast including industry veteran Bushra Ansari, Farhan Sayeed, Ahsan Khan, SamiyaMumtaz, Laila Zuberi and UrwaHocane.

The programme, hosted by Shanaz Ramzi, CEO Starlinks PR began the proceedings with a welcome and a brief introduction about the serial. A show-reel followed after which the stakeholders were invited to share their views about their involvement with the playand what it was like dealing with such a complex and serious issue.MominaDuraid from MD productions shared that some of the actors had to really come out of their comfort zones for the roles that they played in the drama. Explaining what prompted the decision to create the drama on such a complex subject, Roshaneh Zafar from Kashf Foundation pointed to the Kasur incident as the catalyst which pushed both Kashf Foundation and MD Productions towards bringing the issue onto mainstream television. Ehteshamuddin, the director explained how it had been challenging to get the writer, FarhatIshtiaq to write the script, as not only was the subject a difficult one to portray on screen but it also needed a script that was very close to reality. Bushra Ansari threw light on her character, which is that of a woman who is extremely confident but unrefined, and embodies the real culture of Pakistan’s rural areas. She regaled the media present with her quick wit and vivid descriptions and stories painted about the time on set in Mirpur Khas.

The atmosphere throughout the evening was easy-going despite the serious issue of child abuse and the taboos associated with it,highlighted in the drama. The highlight of the evening was the Q&A session, which was made all the more interesting with the input from the celebrity star cast present – Ahsan Khan, UrwaHocane and Farhan Saeed.

It may be noted that this play is not the first collaboration to take place between MD Productions and Kashf Foundation; previously they have worked together on the creation of the critically acclaimed drama Rehaii.  

 Overall it was a memorable evening with everyone now waiting impatiently for thedrama serial to go on air on HUM from April 10, 2016.
